LHD Board addresses short agenda

The Lavaca Hospital District Board of Directors met in its regular meeting Monday, July 17 and addressed a short agenda.

The board approved medical staff recommendations presented by chief of staff, Dr. Maurice Wilkinson, of physicians for advancement from provisional to consulting staff, who included Maninder Kaur, M.D. (Neurology-Tele-medicine) and Bradley Nowack, M.D. (Radiology).

Physician applications for clinical privileges as members of the provisional consulting staff included: Juan Calle Toro, M.D. (Diagnostic radiology), Albert Chorens, M.D. (General surgery) and Stephen Sartin, M.D. (Radiology).

The board also approved clinical privileges of physician applications for provisional courtesy staff, who included: Donald Kocurek, M.D. (Family practice) and George Steven White (Orthopedic surgery).

Regarding another agenda item, the board accepted the Public Investment Quarterly report as presented by Lavaca Medical Center administrator Steve Bowen.

Administrative/Financial Report:

Lavaca Medical Center administrator Steve Bowen presented his administrative report for the month of June reviewing House Bill 3191, which will be implemented in September.

Bowen said during June, LMC held a Health Careers Day Camp for high school and junior high school students.

Regarding physician recruitment, Bowen said Kurt Chunda will complete his medical student emergency room rotation later this year at LMC and Stalin Subramanian, M.D., has taken another full-time job and will be leaving Lavaca Family Health Clinic at the end of August.

Bowen reported that the hospital is in the process of recruiting a new gastroenterologist for October and he will keep the board apprised of the recruitment progress.

Bowen said construction is underway in the radiology department for the new diagnostic radiology equipment.

He said Press Ganey surveys are currently being implemented at the clinic.

Board president, James Fenner, presided over the meeting with board members Rosanne Gallia, Forrest Kroschel, Gene Schott and John Allen present for the meeting.
