SouthStar’s bank board buys new tasers for local police force
The SouthStar bank board recently approved a donation to the Moulton Police Department to purchase new tasers to outfit officers serving on the county’s smallest police force.
They’re definitely tools that will be put to good use, said Moulton Police Chief Daniel Beyer.
Just last year, in fact, Officer Raul Diaz had an incident where he had to fight a suspect who resisted arrest. Officer Diaz injured his shoulder as a result of that altercation, an injury that left him on medical for roughly half a year.
“Had Diaz had the taser, then, things likely would have worked out differently,” Chief Beyer said.
Kapavik assured Beyer that he and the bank were always “happy to support the department in any way possible.”
The new tasers will be carried by all Moulton Police Department officers while on duty. They are tools that assist officers with what is called in the industry a “lessthan-lethal” means of subduing a suspect that typically involves a powerful electric jolt that will leave a target temporarily unable to use certain muscle groups.
All officers receive specialized training that certify each knows the ins and outs of proper weapon use, containment and care, the chief said. This is hardly the first time South Star Bank assisted the local department with needed tools for the police officer’s job. Just a couple of years prior, SouthStar Bank bought bullet proof vests for each officer.
“Those vests are still worn on a daily basis to keep everyone safe,” Beyer said.
SouthStar also paired up with another local bank not long ago to purchase stateof-the-art skimming device detectors, which were used on multiple occasions since to uncover hidden computerized devices that crooks can employ to steal both your hard-earned dollars and precious personal information.
Both the Moulton Police Department and City of Moulton expressed their sincere gratitude for the continued support from local partners like SouthStar Bank and its board of directors.
