St. Joseph’s parish picnic takes place Sunday in Moulton

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moulton will hold its annual parish picnic Sunday, Sept. 18, at the church’s social center complex, located on the church grounds.

The celebration begins with 10 a.m. mass inside the newly renovated St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, followed by the picnic meal featuring Moulton’s famous fried chicken and beef stew with all the trimmings.

Dinner plates go on sale at 10:30 a.m. for $12 each, both dine-in plates as well as the drive-through lanes, where plates-to-go and meat-to-go will be available.

The Ken Brothers are back once more this year to get the day’s musical entertainment going. They’ll be playing under the outdoor pavilion from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Czech Wine Stompers setting up inside the air-conditioned hall for a free dance 2-7 p.m.

Also taking place inside the social center Sunday, parishioners can take part in the always popular cake walk, as well as play a few games of Bingo to win tons of great prizes. Both are planned from 2-6 p.m. (or while prizes last).

The auction kicks off outside under the pavilion beginning at 1 p.m., with all sorts of great items going to the highest bidder, including quilts, Afghans, artisan handcrafted wood and metal projects, plants, livestock, homemade noodles, farm-fresh canned goods and many other items.

Visitors will also want to check out the many great items over at the country store, also under the pavilion Sunday, along with all sorts of games for the young and young-at-heart, including a plant walk, fishpond, train ride, ring toss, ball toss and tons more.

Be sure to grab your chances to purchase chances for the church’s annual drawing. More than $7,400 worth of prizes were donated toward this year’s raffle, and just a limited number of tickets are available.

As usual, too, nobody should have to worry about going thirsty. They’ll be serving up all sorts of ice cold refreshments, soda waters, snow cones, popcorn and hamburgers available throughout the afternoon.

“Mark your calendars now and be sure to come on out to join us on Sunday, Sept. 18,” Father Gabriel said. “It’s always a good time, and we’d love to see you there. We’ll see you Sunday!”
