St. Mary’s Parish Picnic Sunday

The annual St. Mary’s Catholic Church picnic is scheduled for this Sunday with all activities taking place on the church’s grounds located at 1648 FM 340, west of Hallettsville.

The picnic will begin with a celebration of Mass at 9:15 a.m. and will be followed by a day filled with an assortment of activities.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m, the traditional meal consisting of St. Mary’s stew and sausage with German-style potatoes, green beans, sauerkraut, pickles, bread and dessert, will be served for dine-in inside the air-conditioned hall or for drive-thru at a cost of $13.00 per plate.

Also starting at 10:30 a.m., a Country Store will open and and will offer all types of items for sale.

Throughout the picnic, the day will be filled with polkas and waltzes with the Texas Sound Czech Band starting the musical entertainment off at 11 a.m.

At 2:30 p.m., the Red Ravens will perform and will be followed by The Czech Wine Stompers, who will take the stage starting at 6 p.m.

A big country auction, including livestock, handmade quilts, antiques, arts and crafts, trees, plants and other items for sale, will begin at 1 p.m.

In addition, bingo is scheduled to take place from 12 noon to 4 p.m. and other games are offered for all ages including a plant and cake walk, ball throw, ring toss, fish pond, a bounce house and train rides.

Ice cold soft drinks and beer, along with the picnic’s famous hamburgers, baked goods, kolaches, snow cones, popcorn, ice cream and nachos will be served throughout the event as well.

The day promises to have all sorts of fun things to do and everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day under the shade trees on the St. Mary’s picnic grounds.
