Lavaca County lifts burning ban

The weeks’ long ban on outdoor burning in Lavaca County came to end at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, when countywide fire restriction was finally lifted by order of County Judge Mark Myers.

Conditions had gotten bleak when Judge Myers first issued the countywide disaster declaration on Wednesday, June 22.

Persistent lack of rainfall, intense daily triple-degree heat and steady winds that worked to dry the region even more had settled on the county and refused to budge, working to create the perfect storm when it came to the conditions that fast-moving wildfires love best.

“Whereas, due to recent weather conditions, rainfall and a slight temporary cooling weather pattern, the conditions no longer constitute an imminent threat of disaster,” Monday’s order of recension read.

The burn ban was thereby lifted and rescinded, effective 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29. The order was signed by Judge Myers and filed for the official county record by County Clerk Elizabeth Kouba.
