Bulldogs lose against Palacios and Tidehaven

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Bulldogs Baseball Team edged Palacios 6-5 on April 16 and lost to Tidehaven 8-4 on Friday in two home district games last week.

The Bulldogs scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth from a 4-4 score and then allowed one run in the top of the seventh to hold off Palacios 6-5.

Yoakum opened scoring in the second with a single run and took a 3-0 lead after three complete frames.

Tidehaven scored three in the top of the fourth and the teams scored a run each in the fifth inning.

Brenten Jacob was 2-for-3 with two runs, triple and RBI and Ty Gordon batted 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI and a triple to lead Yoakum at the plate.

Wyatt Hanzelka pitched six innings with four runs on five hits, two walks and six strikeouts. Owen Blanco tossed one frame in relief with one run on two hits and one strikeouts.

Sutton Pavliska was the putout leader with eight.

TIDEHAVEN 8, YOAKUM 4

Tidehaven scored three runs in the top of the fourth to rally from 3-2 down to win against Yoakum 8-4 at Turtle Wing Night on April 19.

The ‘Dogs got within 5-4 after the fifth inning before the Tigers scored another three in the sixth frame.

Tidehaven led 2-0 after one-and-half frames before Yoakum brought home a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and took a 3-2 lead in the third square.

Gordon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs with Trae Cuellar hitting 2-for-4 with run, RBI and double. Andrew Lara got two hits as well.

Jacob pitched 3 1/3 innings with four hits, five runs, a walk and three strikeouts. Blanco took over over, went two frames with two hits, two runs, three walks and a strikeout. Gordon pitched the final 1 2/3 innings with one run on two hits, five walks and a strikeout.

Pavliska had four putouts in the field.
