Bulldogs put in two good performances in bi-district sweep

The Yoakum baseball had two good games all round in sweeping Poteet (12-2, 10-0) Friday in Kenedy to win their bi-district series.
The Dogs had double digits in hits in both games, gave up only handful of hits total and allowed just two runs.
“We played a great series. Had two good games pitching. Connor did great in the first game with just a couple of hits. Brayden gave up two early hits in game two but settled in after that,” Yoakum head coach Karl Saenz said. “We played great on defense. We hit the ball from one through nine and scored a lot of runs. It was hot but we played good.”

Yoakum used a four-run bottom-of-the-sixth-inning to get a run-rule win in six innings in the opener.
Poteet scored twice in the top of the sixth frame after falling down 8-0.
Zaruba earned a one-out walk to start and was followed with Ethan Franklin earning base on balls.  The ‘Dogs loaded the bases on a Braden Goode single. Slayde Rice reached on an error while Zaruba scored for a 9-2 lead. Franklin’s runner Corey Gomez scored on a passed ball and the game concluded on Ty Gordon’s two-run triple.
Yoakum started the game with a 1-0 lead when Qyion Williams doubled, took third on a sacrifice and scored on a passed ball.
Rice singled and Gordon was hit by the pitch in the first two batters in the second frame. Both runners scored on Julian Estrada’s two-run single
Yoakum took a 7-0 lead after the third inning with four runs on three hits and were led by Gordon’s two-run double and Zaruba’s RBI double that scored Williams.
Williams scored the lone Yoakum run in the fourth after a leadoff walk.

Two in-the-park home runs and three overall in the first two frames of the second game send Yoakum cruise to a 10-0 win in five innings.
Williams led off with an in-the-park jack and Zaruba followed with a shot over the left-field wall.  Franklin got a two-base error and scored on Goode’s RBI triple. Goode later went home on passed ball.
Poteet produced some early offense with two hits in the bottom of the first but no runs were scored.
Tre Robbins placed a ball right at the wall and managed to go around the bases for an in-the-park homer. With two outs, Zaruba and Franklin singled.  Zaruba and Gomez later advanced home on Rice’s two-run single.
Yoakum went up 10-0 in the top of the fifth with two hits, a walk and three errors. They then prevented Poteet from scoring and extending the game in the bottom of the inning.
