St. Paul baseball: Johnson pitches in 10 games in freshman year

    St. Paul 2022 member and Temple Junior College baseball player Zak Johnson saw some action in his freshman season 2023.
    Johnson’s first game was Feb. 5 at Galveston College, a 3-2 win for Temple College. He earned the win on the mound with a two-hitter, a walk and two strikeouts in one inning worked with a 0.00 ERA.
    His next action was the first game of a home doubleheader against Angelina College on Feb. 9,  9-8 loss for the Leopards. On the bump, Johnson yieled one walk, one run and one earned run.
    Johnson next played in the second game of a home doubleheader against Navarro College on Feb. 25 with TC falling 14-7. He worked 2.1 innings, one hit,, one strikeout, one home run, one run, one eared run and 3,86. ERA.
    On Feb. 27. TC played on the road against Mary Hardin-Baylor JV, winning 12-5. Johnson threw 0.1 innings, one hit and one walk, 0.00 ERA.
    Johnson played in TC’s 16-10 loss at Cisco College in the second game of a doubleheader March 11. He pitched one frame, two runs on two hits, two earned runs, 18.00 ERA, one walk and two strikeouts.
    His next game was in game two of a road doubleheader against Grayson College March 15 as TC fell 10-4. Johnson threw for one inning, two hits, 0.00 ERA and one strikeout.
    Johnson pitched in game one of a home doubleheader against Weatherford College April 15, pitching one inning, one hit, one run, one earned run, 9.00 ERA, one walk, two strikeouts and one home run as the Leopards fell 7-2.
    He worked 2 1/3 innings with two hits and 0.00 ERA in the second game of a road doubleheader vs Vernon College April 22 as TC lost 8-5.
    Johnson went 2/3 innings with 0.00 ERA in a 10-1 TC win in game two of a doubleheader April 29 at North Central Texas College.
    His last action of the season came March 12 against Odessa College in the NJCAA Region V tournament in Weatherford in an 11-2 loss for the Leopards. Johnson worked two innings, three hits, three runs, 0.00 ERA, two walks and one home run. In the field, he had one putout on one chance for 1.00 fielding.
    Johnson’s totals for the 2023 season are 10 appearances, 1-0 record, 11.2 innings pitched, 3.86 ERA and eight strikeouts.
