St. Paul baseball:Cardinals nine open season

St. Paul hardballers opened the season at Flatonia and went 1-2 in the Lockhart Tournament last week.

Holding a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third, the Flatonia Bulldogs plated six more runs to down St. Paul 9-2 Feb. 22 in Flatonia in the season opener for the Cardinals.
Flatonia took a 2-0 lead after one inning and added a run in the second box.
St. Paul scored twice in the top of the third.
Jackson Ulcak was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a double, with Nate Boedeker and Fisher Davis scoring one run each.
Ulcak, Zeke Rodriguez, Boedeker and Blaine Humes all pitched while Ulcak and Rodriguez each had two putouts in the field.

Lockhart Tournament
Del Valle 7, St. Paul 2

The Cardinals opened up the Lockhart Tournament with a 7-2 setback to Del Valle.
Del Valle led 3-1 after the first frame and recorded four runs in the top of the fourth; St. Paul pulled one back in the bottom of the inning.
Davis and Rodriguez had one hit each; Jacob Seibert and Davis scored one run.
Davis pitched three innings with three runs on two hits, three walks and one strikeout; Rodriguez worked three innings with four runs, four hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Boedeker made eight putouts in the field.

Ulcak pitched a one-run, two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead St. Paul to a 3-1 win over Austin Hyde Park.
Hyde Park led 1-0 after one frame; St. Paul tied the game in the second inning, went ahead 2-1 in the third and added an insurance run in the fifth frame.
Boedeker had two hits and an RBI; Rodriguez scored two runs and had one hit; Brody Biehunko had a hit and a run. In the field, Boedeker made six putouts.

The Cardinals closed out the tournament the same way they started it — a game against Del Valle.
Del Valle got 10 hits and took advantage of seven St. Paul errors for a 10-2 win.
Del Valle outscored the Cards 8-1 in the second inning, added a run in the third and St. Paul got within 9-2 in the fifth before Del Valle plated one more in the sixth.
Boedeker, Davis, Ulcak, Humes and Seibert all got one hit.
Humes pitched two innings with five hits and eight runs while Rodriguez went four frames in relief with two runs on five hits.
Boedeker paced the Cards defense with six putouts.
