St. Paul boys basketball: Cardinals pick up win at Bloomington Tournament

The Cardinals faced the competition in the Bloomington Tournament, going 1-3 with a win over Taft, and losses to Hallettsville, Victoria Cobras and Bloomington.
St. Paul 41, Taft 38
Joseph Twyford and Trent Brown combined for 25 points to lead the Cardinals to a 41-38 win over Taft. St. Paul led 13-10 after the opening quarter and were ahead 27-21 at halftime.
The Cardinals went on a 9-4 run in the third quarter and Taft tried to comeback with a 13-5 run in the fourth period.

The Brahmas used a 21-10 run in the second frame to down St. Paul 52-38. Hallettsvile led 8-3 after the first quarter and 29-13 at intermission; St. Paul outscored Hallettsville 12-8 in the third quarter and the Brahmas came back with 15 of 28 points in the fourth quarter. Twyford sank 22 points to lead the Cardinals.

Victoria Cobras 64, St. Paul 30
St. Paul trailed 48-13 at halftime and could not recover against the Victoria Cobras, falling 64-30.
The Cobras had  runs of 26-6 (first frame) and 22-7 (second frame) for their halftime advantage. They outscored St. Paul 13-12 in the third and St. Paul sank five of eight points in the fourth.
Brown bagged eight points to pace the Cardinals.

Brown hit four triples and deposited 18 points but St. Paul came up short to the hosts 35-27.
Bloomington led 11-8 after one period and led 16-14 at halftime as St. Paul outscored them 6-5 in the second.
