YHS Softball Team wins against Palacios, honors seniors on their final walk

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldogs Softball Team is hovering around fourth place in district after going 1-1 against Palacios and Tidehaven in district April 16 and April 19.

YOAKUM 11, PALACIOS 0

Yoakum scored five runs in the second inning and brought in four in the fifth in a fiveinning 11-0 win against Palacios.

The Lady Bulldogs scored two runs in the third square. This was Parent’s Night.

Olivia Fojt got a home run, two total runs and three RBI; Madilynn Steinmann went 2-for3 with two RBI, triple and double. Lexi Zaruba hit 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and Macie Blakeney went 2-for-3 with RBI, three runs. Addison Pekar got two hits as well and scored one run.

Fojt held Palacios to two hits and no runs in five innings with three walks and six strikeouts.

In the field, Blakeney made two putouts and one assist.

TIDEHAVEN 8, YOAKUM 6

Tidehaven outscored the Lady ‘Dogs 8-2 over the final four innings to rally from 4-0 down to win 8-6 Friday.

Yoakum scored three runs in the second inning and led 4-0 after three.

Tidehaven tied the game in the top of the fourth before the Lady Bulldogs got the lead back at 5-4 at the end of the inning.

Tidehaven outscored Yoakum 2-0 in the fifth and led 8-5 going into the bottom of the sixth before Yoakum scored one to get within two.

Madisen Grant was Yoakum top plate performer, going 3-for-4, double, run and two RBI. Blakeney got two hits, double and two RBI while Destiny Rios was 2-for-4 with one double.

Fojt pitched four innings with four runs on three hits, four walks and three strikeouts. Steinmann worked 1 1/3 innings, ceding four runs on three hits, walk and three strikeouts. Hannah Schultz closed out with 1 2/3 innings, two hits , walk and strikeout.

Zaruba had eight putouts on defense.
