Yoakum boys basketball: Yoakum loses to Luling in close game in season opener
The Yoakum Bulldogs came within one quarter of winning their season opener Tuesday at home against Luling but came up short 64-60. Yoakum held 54-49 advantage heading into the final eight minutes before the Eagles went on a 15-6 run to take the lead.
Yoakum led 13-10 after the first quarter and each team scored two dozen in the second frame for a 37-34 Bulldog lead.
Yoakum upped their lead to five points at the end of the third quarter with a 17-15 run.
Kade Giese led Yoakum with 11 points and one triple with Corey Gomez hitting a three and scoring nine points. Gage Harrison and AJ Adamek also finished with nine points each.
