Yoakum football: Bulldogs open at Industrial
The Yoakum Bulldogs kick off the 2022 season with a trip out to Industrial to face down the Cobras.
The Cobras return 16 lettermen and seven starters from their 11-3 regional finalist 2021 team and are slated for a runner-up finish in 15-3AD).
“Industrial is going to be a tough one for us,” Bulldogs head coach Bo Robinson said. “We have talent but we are young and inexperienced. Industrial ’s line has more experience; they are bigger.”
The Industrial offense will rely on linemen Jacob Repka and Cobyn Snyder. Aiden Baker and Ashton Garza each saw time at quarterback; Clearance Hosey is the top receiving threat with 560 yards and five touchdowns. Hosey also ran for 410 yards and two touchdowns and got four interceptions in the secondary. Lineman Clayton Rountree leads the defense. Other players to watch are RB-DB Richard Kurtz, DL-FB Dylan Rerich, RB-LB Cooper Martin, TE-DL Kade Kubecka, OL-DL Matthew King, RB-LB Taylor McCory, K Rider Ulloa, WR Braxton Warren and OL-LB Beau Bethany.
“Hosey is one of their best receivers. They will throw it to him a lot and give it to him on the jet sweep,” Robinson said. “Their offensive line has a lot of size. Our defense has to be able to limit their offense.”
Yoakum’s offense will need to get the run game going and complete some passes.
“Our offensive line has to play well. We going to get Jayden Jones the ball and get him going. We also need to get the ball on the perimeter to our receivers. Our offense will start with good play up front,” Robinson said.
Second scrimmage cancelled
Because of inclement weather, Yoakum’s scrimmage last Thursday in La Grange was called off.
