Yoakum football: Yoakum looking to end skid against Cameron Yoe

The Bulldogs host Cameron Yoe for their second straight home game.
Yoakum got off to a good start with a 36-14 win over Industrial with quarterback Zach Taylor throwing for 173 yards and three touchdowns while running for another one.
The Yoemen opened 2023 with a 45-21 rout of Lago Vista.
Quarterback Braylan Drake had a good first game by completing 13-of-22 passes for 252 yards and four touchdowns while rushing twice for 53 yards.
Kardius Bradley led Yoe with 149 rushing yards on 20 carries and one touchdown.
Kason Goolsby had two catches for 80 yards and two touchdowns. J. Hardman and Elijah Goodrum each had a touchdown catch as well.
Hardman had nine solo tackles and 13 assists while Cade Hubnik, Xavier Gilmon and Cody Webb each having one tackle for loss. Yoe also recovered three fumbles, including one returned for a touchdown by Goolsby.
Against Industrial, Yoakum slowed down its own offensive momentum at times.
“We need to cut out pre-snap penalties. They will cost us. We had one turnover and we can’t have any against Yoe,” Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said. “We are throwing the ball more this year so we cannot have three straight incompletions and then have to punt. We have to find a way to control the ball even though we are passing more.”
On the defensive side, the Bulldogs will need to tackle well and play their assignments well.
“Yoe has athletes and they are going to make a big play or two; we just have to limit those kinds of plays. If we tackle well and play our responsibilities, I think we will be okay,” Robinson said.
Yoakum and the Yoeman matchup twice last year in non district and in the opening round of the playoffs. Both games were won by Cameron.
