Yoakum softball: Lady Bulldogs win last two regular-season games

After losing two of three games during the week of April 10, the Yoakum softball team picked up district wins against Palacios and Tidehaven last week.
The Lady Bulldogs will play Luling in the bi-district round in a one-game series at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in Flatonia.
Yoakum 13, Palacios 5
Yoakum had a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth frame April 18 at Palacios and scored six runs for a 13-5 win.
Yoakum led 1-0 after the opening inning and the game was 3-3 after three when Palacios outscored Yoakum 3-2 in that inning. Yoakum took a 4-3 lead in the fourth and led 7-3 going into the bottom of the sixth frame.
The Lady Bulldogs had another strong hitting day with 18 hits and nine extra-base hits: Stephanie Oviedo got four hits, triple, double, RBI and three runs; Deazia Rios cranked out four hits, three runs, double and RBI; Lexi Zaruba hit 3-for-4, run, triple, RBI.
Olivia Fojt pitched seven frames with five runs on three hits, 11 walks and seven strikeouts; Zaruba made seven putouts.

Yoakum 8, Tidehaven 5
Yoakum rallied from a 5-3 deficit in the top of the fifth by scoring four runs and added an insurance run in the sixth inning to edge Tidehaven 8-5.
Tidehaven led 1-0 after one inning and 5-2 after two frames. Yoakum got within 5-3 when the third square concluded.
Macie Blakeney got a triple, three RBI and a run on 3-for-4 hitting; Stephanie Oviedo got two hits, a double and a run; Kaci Idlett got a home run, two RBI.
Madilynn Steinmann pitched 1 2/3 innigns with five runs on six hits, a walk and a strikeout; Fojt worked 5 1/3 innings, four hits, one wild pitch, six walks and two strikeouts. Zaruba had 10 putouts on defense.
