Shiner volunteer firemen tackle training modules

Shiner Volunteer Fire Department’s Training Capt. Tim Decker led local firefighters through a practice drafting operation on Wednesday, July 20, as part of a department-wide effort to get all firefighters officially certified to their respective roles.

Shiner FFA officers returned recently from the 94th annual Texas FFA convention held at the historic Fort Worth Stockyard District, where student leaders from across Lavaca County and the Lone Star State spent an entire week of July 11-15 immersed in all things FFA.

The city of Shiner will enter its new budget year with precisely the same number of dollars it collects from property taxes as it did the year before, council members decided Monday evening. It was hardly the simplest of decisions for them, though.

St. Paul alum graduates Victoria Fire Academy

Shiner Catholic School alumni Atley Pilat recently graduated from the Victoria Fire Academy and passed all his required state tests.  He is now a certified EMT and fire fighter.  Congratulations, Atley. You make your hometown proud!

Extremely dry weather, drought and the potential fire hazard conditions combined to help city and county leaders to arrive at a unified decision to cancel the 2022 Shiner Half Moon Holidays fireworks display.
