Yoakum track and field: Yoakum sends five athletes to state track meet

The Yoakum track and field teams competed in the regional meet Friday and Saturday in Yoakum. Jayana Phillips qualified for state in the 400-meter dash and the triple jump while the Yoakum boys 400-relay team of Jayden Jones, Zach Taylor, Qyion Williams and Kadarius Price will also head to state.

Yoakum softball: Yoakum has good start to first-round playoff game to beat Luling

The Lady Bulldogs softball team had a hot start to their bi-district game Friday against Luling in Flatonia. Yoakum plated eight runs in the top of the first frame and went to defeat Luling 9-1. The Lady Eagles scored one run in the fourth frame and Yoakum plated a run in the sixth inning.

Yoakum baseball: Bulldogs get 14 hits in close loss to Edna to end season

Ethan Franklin and Will Robbins each had three hits, and Yoakum had 14 total but came up short at Edna April 25 9-6 to close out the season. Yoakum went up 2-0 in the top of the third and Edna scored five in the bottom of the inning.

Yoakum baseball: Bulldogs split with Palacios, Tidehaven in district games

Yoakum defeated Palacios and lost by two runs to Tidehaven in district action last week. Yoakum played at Edna on Tuesday to close out the regular-season. Yoakum 13, Palacios 7 Yoakum scored some early-game runs to down Palacios 13-7 April 18 in Palacio.

Yoakum softball: Lady Bulldogs win last two regular-season games

After losing two of three games during the week of April 10, the Yoakum softball team picked up district wins against Palacios and Tidehaven last week. The Lady Bulldogs will play Luling in the bi-district round in a one-game series at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) in Flatonia.

Yoakum track and field: Lady Bulldogs win third at track area meet

The Yoakum track team competed at the area meet April 19 in Seguin, qualifying 13 athletes to this week’s regional meet in Seguin. Girls The Lady Bulldogs scored 73 points to take third. 400 — 1st, Jayana Phillips, 59.80. 800 — 4th, Samantha Adamek, 2:29.94. 1600 — 6th, Gisela Martinez, 5:58.81.

Last week was busy for Yoakum as they played three games and lost three games. Hallettsville 9, Yoakum 3 The Brahmas scored two runs in the top of the first and never looked back as they dealt Yoakum a 9-3 loss April 10 in Yoakum.
