VVA Chapter 870 meets Aug. 17

Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870 meets on the third Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the Ammannsville KJT Hall in Ammannsville. Food and refreshments will be provided at the meeting.

Hostyn Catholic church leveled by gas explosion early Thursday

The community of Hostyn overlooks the Colorado River Valley from where it sits high on a hill, hence its old name of Bluff for more than a century, back when it was first settled back in 1820.   Like many such places, its heyday came decades ago, back before the second world war.

Area lawmen asking for public’s help in solving fuel theft

The Colorado County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in solving the theft of a 500-gallon diesel tank the owner says had just topped off with about that much fuel when someone arrived at the job and stole not only the tank with the fuel, but the trailer it was mounted to as well.
