Candidate filings continue

The filing deadline for candidates to run for positions on the Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees, the Hallettsville City Council and the Lavaca Hospital District Board of Directors began on Jan. 17 and continues until Friday, Feb. 16.

January rains proved One for the record

January 2024 went into the record books as the wettest ever with a rainfall total of 10.90 inches. The amount surpassed the previous record of 8.33 inches set in 1934. Single-day records of 3.88 inches on the 22nd and 3.92 inches on the 24th helped bolster the month’s total.

Mother nature unleashed her fury Friday night, Feb. 2 as tornadic type winds passed through the Hallettsville area leaving a number of trees and limbs downed on county roads as well as storage buildings destroyed during the storm.

City Council hears request from Shiner Pilot Club at monthly meeting

The City of Shiner may be getting a new splash pad at Green-Dickson Park. However, this could be a long process. Linda Vaclavik of the Shiner Pilot Club made this request at the Feb. 5th Shiner City Council meeting. She believes this would be a good thing for both the park and the youth.

Local law enforcement investigating recent motor vehicle thefts

The Shiner Chamber of Commerce had one of its biggest turnouts yet for their annual Chamber Banquet on Feb. 2. “It was an overwhelming (turnout),” Chamber Executive Director Sarah Langhoff said.
