Catholic Schools Week January 28-February 2

Shiner Catholic School, along with other schools across the nation, will celebrate Catholic Schools Week starting Sunday, January 28. Catholic Schools Week kicks off with Mass on Sunday. Donuts will be available for families and friends in attendance. Monday, January 29 is Student Appreciation Day.

Council sets date of March 1 for city ordinances

The Yoakum City Council has set a tentative date at the Jan. 9 meeting for several city ordinances that have been in the works. There are five city ordinances set to be implemented beginning March 1. The first city ordinance was the second and final reading to amend the solid waste collection.

January events at the library

The Yoakum Carl and Mary Welhausen Public Library is gearing up for several events and fun activities this January. Starting this Thursday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m., the library will host the Dewey Kids Club Pancake Brunch.

Apply for ballots by mail now for upcoming March primaries

Those wanting to take part in the upcoming March 5 primaries have a couple of dates to take note of between now and Election Day. The first is Monday, Feb. 5. It is the final day to register as a voter to participate in the March 5 Primary Elections. Not sure if you are registered to vote?

Lavaca County Judge Keith Mudd administered the Oath of Office to Lavaca County Appraisal District Board of Director members at the Jan. 9 regularlycalled board meeting for a term beginning Jan. 1, 2024 and ending Dec. 31, 2025.

Where the wildlife truly is...wild!

Cub Scouts of Pack 223 from Hallettsville recently camped out at Brazos Bend State Park near Needville. The park is known for its alligators and did not disappoint. Scouts counted more than 40 gators on our two mile hike around Elm lake.

The Hallettsville Lions Club met in its first meeting of the new year at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Monday, Jan. 8, with Lion president Charles Neumeyer presiding over the meeting.

Chicken noodle soup dinner to benefit Wied Hall Jan. 21

A chicken noodle soup dinner, benefiting Wied Hall, will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21 at Wied Hall. First come, first serve. No tickets needed. Soup will be served to-go only. Serving starts at 10 a.m. until sold out. Soup will be sold by the quart for $5 each and $15 for one gallon.
