Shiner CDA receives new members, awards membership pins

The Shiner Catholic Daughters of Court St. Paul #1604 met on Sunday, January 21.  Regent Shirley Nagelmueller presided and welcomed members to the meeting, that included District Deputy Kathleen Svatek from Flatonia. Members were treated to noodle soup and trimmings to begin the evening.

Wild Game Supper Saturday

The annual Wild Game Supper/Big Buck Contest/Merchant Booth will take place this Saturday evening, at the Hallettsville K of C Hall m. with a social hour until 6:30 p.m. when the meal will be served. Admission to the hall is $12 per person that includes the meal.

The Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture 92nd Annual Membership and Awards Banquet will be held Wednesday, January 31 at the Hallettsville KC Hall. The theme for this year is “Hallettsville – Then and Now.

The 61st Annual Jr. Livestock Show and Market Sale was held this past weekend at the William & Alton Allen Exposition Center with sales netting $410,885. The sale brought in $7,440 less than last year.

Court accepts County Treasurer retirement

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning and accepted a retirement  letter from County Treasurer Karen Bludau. Bludau served the county for a total of 25 years and replaced former county treasurer Lois Henry in 2011.

Shiner ISD reveals TAPR scores

In a very short meeting, Shiner ISD finalized and unveiled their Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) scores for the 2023-24 school year at the Jan. 15 meeting. The district showed improvements in reading and math.

School board, city council elections on the horizon

Election season in the City of Shiner has begun. Early voting starts Monday, April 22 and the election will begin May 4. Those up for re-election for Shiner ISD are Place 1 held by Julie Gamez and Place 7 held by Jared Boedeker. People can start filing for those positions through Feb. 16.
