Shiner Lions Club donates to DLSEC

DeWitt-Lavaca Special Education Cooperative (DLSEC) received about $3,000 from the Shiner Lions Club as part of their annual demonstration of support on Thursday, Sept. 8.

Former Stevens Mayo/NFL player honored with Andy Rice Sr. Day

Over the years, Hallettsville has had, to this writer’s recollection, only two athletes play in the National Football League. One is Cole Wick, who recently played for the Detroit Lions and New Orleans Saints.  The other is the legendary Andy Rice Sr.

Machart completes basic at Lackland AFB

The Machart family of Shiner spent their first days of September over at Lackland Air Force Base, where they got to attend U.S. Air Force recruit Katie Machart’s graduation ceremony from basic training. Katie, a member of Shiner High School’s Class of 2022, is already an E-2 in rank.

USDA adds $26 million more to Texas broadband expansion projects

The Agriculture Department announced recently an additional $401 million for high-speed internet access in rural communities would soon be distributed to various companies nationwide.  Of that, two Texas companies will receive $26.41 million in grants, USDA reported. The first grant, totaling $16.

Fugitive jailed after river runaway attempt

A routine traffic stop turned into an endurance race for a Hallettsville police officer when the man he pulled over dove out of his vehicle and took off running just as the sun began to set last week.
