DeWitt County proposes 10% decrease for 2022 tax rate

After nine years of a stagnant tax rate, the DeWitt County Commissioners’ Court voted in favor of a 10% decrease for the 2022 proposed rate at $0.42243 per $100 valuation during their Aug 8 meeting.

St. Joseph Church Picnic to be held on Sunday

There will be 15 prize drawings totaling $21,600.00 to be given away during the St. Joseph Church Picnic in Yoakum on Aug. 7 at the Yoakum Community Center.

YISD board hears proposed pay increases for all teachers, staff

The Yoakum ISD School Board reviewed a proposed budget for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year that featured pay increases for all teachers and staff at Monday’s special meeting, Aug 1.

Yoakum Pre-K students receive free supplies this year

YISD pre-K students will receive free backpacks, mats and supplies for the 2022-2023 school year, courtesy of a grant that accompanies the district’s first year to offer a full-day pre-K program.

Yoakum’s blue streetlights explained

The blue streetlights dotting Yoakum are the result of a recalled batch of defective white LED lights rather than a demonstration of Bulldog spirit by lining City streets with school colors.
