DeWitt County Sheriff’s Report, July 8 - 14

DeWitt County law enforcement officers made 19 arrests between July 8 and July 14. Those arrests contributed to an average daily prisoner population of 93 inmates at the DeWitt County Jail, 13 of whom included prisoners housed for other agencies.

Criminals deceive DeWitt County for more than $305,000

Editor's Note: Due to the breaking-news nature of this story, the article was updated as information became available on Monday, June 18. The first cyber security crime in DeWitt County history deceived county staff in June, according to County Judge Daryl Fowler.  This led to $305,301.

Colorado Co. fires consume 380 acres

Several Lavaca County crews were amongst the 34 departments on the scene for two wildfires that consumed more than 380 acres in Colorado County over multiple days this week, according to Texas A&M Forest Service and local departments.

The DeWitt County Commissioners’ Court voted to increase service call stipends for the county’s seven volunteer fire departments (VFD) in response to high fuel costs and enduring drought conditions.

The deadline to apply for up to $50,000 grants from the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) is fast approaching. LCRA supports local communities in its service area through its Community Development Partnership Program (CDPP).
