Lavaca County District Court in session

The Lavaca County District Court was in session on Monday, Feb. 9 with Judge William D. Old presiding over a mixed criminal, civil and juvenile docket.During the session, one defendant plead guilty to possession of cocaine. Sentencing in that case was moved to a later date.

Council amends Utility Tap Fee Schedule

The Moulton City Council approved an amendment to the City of Moulton Utility Tap Fee Schedule at the Jan. 13 meeting.The new fees for the water tap will be $2,500, while the new sewer fees will be $4,000. “This was a decision made by the council,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said.

STEAR Program helps those in need during emergencies

The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry, known as STEAR, is a free, voluntary program designed to help local officials prepare for disasters by identifying residents who may need extra help when emergencies strike. Those in DeWitt County can register.

The 63rd Annual Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show was held Jan. 23-25 and netted a total of $423,537 in sales, which was up $3,217 from the previous year.The Grand Champion steer, exhibited by Connor Jansky sold for $14,500.

At the Monday, Jan. 26 Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court meeting the court discussed the need for a full-time grant writer.Speaking for the county’s advisory committee, County Attorney James Reeves asked the court to consider the possibility of hiring a full-time grant writer for the county.
