USDA releases New World Screwworm information

Regarding a press release from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced on Jan. 30, a shift in New World screwworm (NWS) sterile fly dispersal efforts into Texas.

Lavaca County District Court in session

The Lavaca County District Court was in session on Monday, Feb. 9 with Judge William D. Old presiding over a mixed criminal, civil and juvenile docket.During the session, one defendant plead guilty to possession of cocaine. Sentencing in that case was moved to a later date.

Early voting in primary election starts Tuesday, Feb. 17

Early in-person voting begins Tuesday, Feb. 17 and will be held each day through Friday, Feb. 27. The general election is set for Tuesday, March 3.

Council amends Utility Tap Fee Schedule

The Moulton City Council approved an amendment to the City of Moulton Utility Tap Fee Schedule at the Jan. 13 meeting.The new fees for the water tap will be $2,500, while the new sewer fees will be $4,000. “This was a decision made by the council,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said.

STEAR Program helps those in need during emergencies

The State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry, known as STEAR, is a free, voluntary program designed to help local officials prepare for disasters by identifying residents who may need extra help when emergencies strike. Those in DeWitt County can register.
