Area schools report first day enrollment

The school term for 2025-26 began during the past two weeks with area schools, Sacred Heart Catholic School and Hallettsville, Ezzell and Vysehrad ISDs, reporting their first day enrollment numbers.Ezzell ISD was the first area school to start with students reporting on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Lavaca County grand jury hands down 23 felony indictments

Lavaca County grand jurors handed down 23 felony indictments after meeting twice in July with prosecutors to review local criminal cases.Nine of those 23 cases came back as sealed indictments, which are typically issued whenever law enforcement has not yet served arrrest warrants in those cases.
