Yoakum High School welcomes Victor Posada as band director

The Yoakum High School Band has a new band director. Victor Posada will be entering his 8th year as a band director and his first year with Yoakum High School. Before coming to YHS, he was the Director of Bands at Crystal City High School in Crystal City.

Annual Schulenburg Festival set this weekend

The annual Schulenburg Festival, also known as the “National Party of Texas” is set for next weekend that promises fun for everyone.Organizers of the event have lined up a vast assortment of activities to enjoy ranging from live music, rodeo, cook-offs, a carnival and kids’ inflatables.

Court holds regular meeting

The Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning discussing the budget and tax rate process, county road bond and routing agreement as well as addressing various county matters.

Friday morning accident claims two lives

A tragic two-vehicle accident that took place 5.8 miles east of Hallettsville on Highway 90-A, on Friday morning, July 25, claimed the lives of both drivers.According a report from Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Ruben San Miguel, the accident took place around 6:15 a.m.
The Shiner Royal Court made the short journey north to Moulton on Saturday, July 26, to join in the festivities of the annual Moulton Jamboree. Representing the Shiner community with pride, the Royal Court returned home with top honors earning 1st Place Chamber of Commerce in the parade competition. The next stop for the Shiner Royal Court will be in Schulenburg on Saturday, August 2, as they continue their tour of community celebrations across the region.

Seven members of the Shiner Stingrays Swim Team advanced to State at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Regionals meet held July 19 in New Braunfels. There were 16 regions competing in TAAF.
