Moratorium remains in place for manufactured homes

The city has issued a temporary moratorium on the placement of manufactured homes while Yoakum city officials revisit zoning regulations and consider long-term guidelines for their future use.“We had a couple of locations that people made complaints about,” City Mayor Carl O’ Neill said.

The Friench Simpson Memorial Library had a successful summer reading program.Overall, the library had a little over 300 participants that actually signed up to be a part of the reading program. For the total month of June, the youth collections at the library was 2,529 items.

The Hallettsville Independent School District will open its doors Thursday, Aug. 14 with the start of the 2025-26 school year.School administrators expect an enrollment of 1,150 with the elementary expecting 452 students, while the junior high anticipates 311 and the high school 387 students.

The Shiner City Council received a report on the Half Moon Holidays from the Shiner Chamber of Commerce at the August 4th meeting. “Half Moon Holidays 2025 was an incredible success and a true testament to what can happen when a community comes together,” Chairman of the Board Michelle Price said.

Council approves grant resolutions

The Moulton City Council approved a couple of grant resolutions at the July 8 meeting.“These resolutions are part of our Texas Water Development Board project for the wastewater plant,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said.

DeWitt Commissioners receive Child Welfare Board budget

The DeWitt County Commissioners Court received the 2025-26 fiscal year budget from the DeWitt County Child Welfare Board at the July 28 meeting.The board requested $7,500 from the commissioners court at the meeting.
