Court hears supplemental insurance presentations

The Lavaca County Commissioners’ Court met in a regular meeting Monday morning hearing from two insurance agencies, who presented supplemental insurance plans for county employees for 2026 beginning with the fiscal year starting Oct. 1.

Boys breeze thru 3 opponents

LOCKHART – The Hallettsville Major League All Stars breezed through three opponents in winning the District 31 East zone championship Saturday.Hallettsville defeated Shiner 19-2.Hallettsville scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Jack Janecek, 24, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025. Jack was born July 1, 2000, in Yoakum, to David and Leah (Wagner) Janecek. He was a 2018 graduate of St. Paul High School and a 2022 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.

Yoakum City Council provides updates, institutes ordinance

The Yoakum City Council gave an update on the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library Kick-Off event that happened recently at the June 10 meeting.“The Library Summer Reading Program got kicked off with the Bike Rodeo,” City Manager Michael Mitchell said. “They had an awesome turnout for that.

Medical Camp at HHS

Texas A&M College of Medicine will host a rural medical day camp at Hallettsville High School on Wednesday, June 25. The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The camp is open to seventh and eighth grade students attending all schools in Lavaca County including Sacred Heart in Hallettsville, St.

Appelt recognized as Lavaca County Friend of Conservation

Jimmy Appelt of Hallettsville was awarded the 2025 Lavaca County Friend of Conservation award by the Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD).The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding examples of assistance that an individual has provided to their local SWCD.

New cannon displayed outside Hallettsville American Legion

The Hallettsville American Legion Post 230 has received a new cannon which is now displayed in front of their building. This has been over ten years in the making to get this cannon. The cannon was delivered just last week.

HVFD respond to structure fire

A structure fire believed to be electrical in origin caused significant damage to a building being used for storage just outside Hallettsville over the weekend.
