Moore wins big in VFW Patriotic Art Contest

John Moore, 18, of Shiner, recently won at the National Level of the 2024-2025 VFW 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest. He has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship for his first place submission.

Students recognized at YISD board meeting

Several students were recognized in both academics and athletics at the Yoakum Independent School District (YISD) meeting June 9. The first student recognized was Emma Fling. She competed in the 2025 State Golf Tournament and placed 42nd out of 70 participants.

DeWitt Commissioners approve agreements

Agreements were approved at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting on June 9. The first item approved was extending the economic development agreement between the Cuero Livestock Show Inc. and DeWitt County for a one-year term.

Medical Camp at HHS

Texas A&M College of Medicine will host a rural medical day camp at Hallettsville High School on Wednesday, June 25. The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.The camp is open to seventh and eighth grade students attending all schools in Lavaca County including Sacred Heart in Hallettsville, St.

Roundabout planned for the Y-intersection west of Hallettsville

Construction will begin this fall regarding the construction of a roundabout (circular intersection) to be located at the Y-intersection approximately four miles west of Hallettsville.The area involves the intersection where Highways 90-A and 77-A converged and branch off toward Shiner and Yoakum.

Traffic stop leads to felony drug arrest

A routine traffic stop Friday night escalated into a foot pursuit, taser deployment and felony drug arrest at a local convenience store in Shiner, according to Shiner Police Department officials.At approximately 10:06 p.m., Sgt Chris Kalina pulled over a 2001 Buick sedan for defective equipment.

Trustees elect officers

The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular meeting Monday evening and held an election for positions on the board.The current officers were re-elected and will continue in their respective positions for the district.
