Lee Vi Moses named as new Shiner ISD Superintendent

The Shiner Independent School District welcomes Lee Vi Moses as its new Superintendent. He is taking the place of former SISD superintendent Alex Remschel. Moses began in education teaching English and coaching football and track as well as girls’ basketball in Bartlett, Texas in 2003.

Shiner High School graduation held May 23

Shiner High School held the 2025 commencement Friday, May 23 at Comanche Stadium. The Shiner High School band played the processional and following the invocation by Eve Roberts, the band played the National Anthem and Erin Pustka led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Shiner Catholic Church welcomes new priest

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church is welcoming a new spiritual leader. Father Jacob Mendoza has been appointed as the parish’s new priest. Originally from California, Father Mendoza has lived in Texas for 15 years now. He was ordained in 2017. “I came to Texas in 2009.

City Park receives grant, improvements to be made

More updates have been given on the Texas Parks and Wildlife grant the city received for park improvements.The grant is $750,000 and has been in the works for a couple of years now. Currently, the city has already gone out for bids. The improvements are slated to start this summer.

DeWitt Commissioners provide jury compensation report

A report on jury compensation was given at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting on May 27. It was reported that jurors will receive a debit card for their service, and if they don’t exercise their right to spend that money in a certain time frame, it is forfeited.

SHCHS graduate ordained catholic priest

Caleb Krischke of the St. John area and a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School received his ordination as a Catholic priest this past Saturday, May 30.The ceremony took place at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Victory with Victoria Diocese Bishop Brendan Cahill conducting the vows.

May rains top five-inch mark

May came to the rescue with several heavy storms which helped put a dent in the year’s deficit. All total the month rang up 5.74 inches, which is the highest one-month amount this year.As daily amounts go 1.91 inches on the 27th was the highest one-day total since 1.97 inches fell on January ninth.
