Edith M. (Panus) Hirsch, 95, quietly relocated to her heavenly home on July 19, 2025. We are now tasked with holding tightly to our memories of her.Edith was many things to many people throughout her long and fruitful life, but above all else, she was a dedicated wife and mother.

City Council awards contract

The Yoakum City Council awarded a contract for the 2025 Street Improvement Project at the July 8 meeting.“The street improvement project is a yearly project that we do, and we have not done it yet because of staff,” Director of Public Works Victor Gomez said. “We just upgrade and maintain the roads.

The Texas Historical Commission received a distinguished service award certificate at the DeWitt County Commissioners Court meeting July 14.“We’re just proud that we had this commission that is an active commission,” Historical Commission Director Peggy Ledbetter said.

Construction and school safety updates were provided at the Yoakum Independent School District meeting on July 14.An update had to do with the new Maintenance Building.“The maintenance crew started moving into this new building this week,” Weaver and Jacobs Representative Shawn Brandt said.

HISD board tackles long agenda

The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular meeting Monday evening and took on a long list of agenda items.The board approved a policy related to student use of personal communication devices that are required by HB 1481 from the 89th Texas Legislature regular session.

Moravia Picnic Sunday

All roads lead to the annual Moravia Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church picnic that will take place Sunday on the Moravia Parish picnic grounds.The traditional picnic dinner meal consisting of stew, kettle fried chicken and trimmings will be served starting at 11 a.m.
