MISD approves new policy for dealing with lice

The Moulton Independent School District approved a new lice procedures policy for the 2025-26 school year at the May 14 meeting.“Our current lice policy doesn’t include anything about sending children home once live lice has been observed or found in a child’s hair,” School Nurse Lindsey Muehr said.

Library looks forward to summer reading program

The Carl and Mary Welhausen Library is preparing for its summer programs to include all ages of children and adults.Registration for the reading program begins on Thursday, May 22 and ends on Friday, June 13. Age groups include: 0-8, 9-17, and 18 and older.

Council amends animal ordinance

The Yoakum City Council amended an ordinance regarding livestock and fowl at the May 13 meeting.The previous ordinance allowed for 20 fowl in the city limits.

YHS commencement exercises set for Friday

The commencement exercise for the Yoakum High School (YHS) Class of 2025 will be held on May 23 beginning at 8 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. The program will start with the processional, National Anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Armed Forces Day: Paying tribute to those who currently serve

Armed Forces Day is a day when Americans honor and thank the men and women who currently serve in the U.S. military.The day was established to recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism of those who serve, and to promote unity among the different military branches.

Memorial Day ceremonies to be held Monday

The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 870, the Lavaca Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6382 and the American Legion Hudgeon’s Post 230 will host Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 26 at the Sacred Heart Family Center located on S. Glendale St. in Hallettsville.
