YCH hosts Hospital Luncheon

The Yoakum Community Hospital (YCH) invited prominent members of Lavaca County and hosted a luncheon. They discussed the state of the hospital.“Last year, the YCH interacted with 22,000 members in our community,” YCH CEO Tiffany Hintze said.

The DeWitt County Commissioners’ Court has ordered to rescind the burn ban at the May 12 meeting.“It looks like we have had a significant amount of rain lately,” Judge Daryl Fowler said.

Students recognized at YISD Board meeting, resignations and retirees announced

Students were recognized at the Yoakum Independent School District meeting May 12 for both art and track.Taylor Velek was recognized for her submission in an art contest. Her artwork, titled “Ranch Hands” qualified for state competition. There were 2,359 artworks judged.

Sacred Heart Church Spring picnic Sunday, May 25

Excessive high temperatures are being predicted with daytime highs expected to be 100-plus degrees through the next few days.Weather forecasters are predicting some areas reaching over 110 degrees and the heat wave is being caused by a strong high-pressure system moving into Texas.

Local Hallettsville Resident Recognized in Texas Conservation Awards Program

Jimmy Appelt of Hallettsville was recognized for his participation in the Texas Conservation Awards Program sponsored by the Lavaca Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) 334, the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts.
The Ford pickup, reported stolen out of Brazoria County, sits in a field in the northern Lavaca County area. The vehicle was used by two subjects, who bailed out of the truck following a law enforcement chase last Tuesday, May 6. The two subjects, described as Hispanic males in their late 20’s and both under six feet tall, led officers to an area between Highway 77 North and CR 240. Suspects remain at large following Tuesday, May 6 bail out

Two subjects, who evaded Lavaca County Sheriff deputies in a bail out last Tuesday, May 6 remain at large according to Sheriff Steven Greenwell.According to a LCSO Facebook post, the bail out took place in western Lavaca County that eventually led to a search in the CR 240 area.
