Board recognizes state champion relay team

The Hallettsville ISD Board of Trustees met in a regular meeting Monday evening and began the meeting by recognizing the Brahma 4x100 relay team who brought home the gold medal at the UIL State Championship Track and Field Meet.

Council discusses code enforcement, gives update on park

The Moulton City Council discussed code enforcement at the April 8 meeting.“It is spring and the grass is going to be growing,” City Administrator LuAnn Rogers said. “We discussed health and safety ordinance codes. That includes tall grass, junk, rubbish and junked vehicles.

The results are in for the Moulton Independent School Board elections.For Place 1, challenger Cody Maresh had a total of 214 votes (58%) while Debra Luksovsky received 154 votes (41%). For Place 2, Jill Moore won over Robert Nieto by just 13 votes.

YISD receives TEA ratings

The Yoakum Independent School District received a “B” rating in the Texas Education Agency’s 2023 STAAR accountability report, with notable progress across multiple academic areas.

Power outage leaves Yoakum community without power for hours

City of Yoakum electric crews promptly tracked down the cause of the power outage that occurred on the afternoon of April 30. Investigations found an unfortunate dove was the cause of the major outage that affected more than half of the city of Yoakum residents and Sweet Home.

April rainfall was sub par

Usually a blessing in the rain department April fell far short with just 0.69 of an inch falling. The month normally receives 3.44 inches, leaving a deficit of 2.75 inches. Year-to-date shows Hallettsville is now 5.29 inches below the normal average of 11.37 inches.

Summers retains mayor seat

Hallettsville city mayor Alice Jo Summers retained her seat following elections held Saturday.In a low turnout of city residents voting, only 153 votes were cast with Summers soundly defeating challenger Gordon G. Clark picking up 88.89% of the votes.

TEA release 2023 accountability ratings

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) recently released 2023 A-F accountability ratings for school systems and campuses statewide, restoring transparency for parents and the public regarding school performance following a lawsuit-induced two-year delay.

Above average hurricane season predicted

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as well as other forecasters are predicting an above average Atlantic hurricane season for this year.While NOAA is considered the best for hurricane predictions, it has not released its expectations.
