Shiner Catholic School principal announces resignation

Shiner Catholic School Principal Neely Yackel will be resigning at the end of the school year (effective June 30).“I am going into educational consulting after this,” Yackel said. “I’ve been here for 17 years. Before that, I was a teacher in Gonzales ISD for ten years.

CDA receives new members, awards membership pins

The Shiner Catholic Daughters of Court St. Paul #1604 met on January 27. Regent Shirley Nagelmueller presided and welcomed local members as well as District Deputy Kathleen Svatek from Flatonia. Members were treated to noodle soup and trimmings.

Shiner VFD oyster supper held, service pins awarded

Members of the Shiner Volunteer Fire Department were awarded their service pins at the annual oyster supper held on Friday, January 24. The 2025 recipients were recognized for years of service that ranged from five years of service on up to 35 years of continuous service.

City Council receives request from Yoakum Garden Club

The City of Yoakum heard a request from the Yoakum Garden Club about potentially having a community garden within city limits at the Jan. 14 meeting.“We would like to establish a community garden within the city limits on city property,” Yoakum Garden Club representative Cynthia Mucala said.

The Annual Sacred Heart Extravaganza will take place Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Hallettsville Knights of Columbus Hall.This year’s title for the extravaganza is The Silver Jubilee Ball.All activities will begin at 6 p.m. with Hors D’oeuvres and a social taking place until 7:30 p.m.
