United Way of the Crossroads recently completed a rural grantmaking process for the first time. United Way of the Crossroads covers DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Lavaca, and Victoria counties.

Annual Shiner Chamber banquet deemed huge success

The annual Shiner Chamber of Commerce Banquet held last Friday turned out to be a huge success.“I happened to come across some people that attended the banquet the following day and they told me they had a great time and had so much fun,” Chamber President and CEO Gracie Rosas said.

PALACIOS – The Hallettsville chalked up a District 25-AA road victory with a 56-36 verdict over Palacios, Tuesday, Feb. 4.The Brahmas overcame 19 turnovers with 48.0% shooting from the field including 41.6% from behind the arc.

January sees snow, rain

For the first time in several years the area saw a nice dusting of snow which reached two to three inches locally.Snow and sleet fell on January 20-21 causing slushy, icy conditions for anyone trying to travel.The month also brought 3.13 inches of rain. Rain fell on 11 days with the heaviest of 1.

The 62nd Annual Hallettsville Jr. Livestock Show was held Jan. 24-26 and netted a total of $420,320, up over $9,000 from the previous year.The Grand Champion steer, exhibited by Lane Leopold and sold for $20,000 setting a new record for steer sales at the show.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held recently for the new fire department building to be located next to Wagner Medical Clinic. City officials attended the groundbreaking. Construction will happen throughout the end of the year.

Shiner Police Department enters into agreement with Operation Lone Star

The Shiner City Council approved an Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between counties and cities associated with Operation Lone Star for law enforcement services. “The main goal is to make the community safer,” Shiner Police Chief Wayne Denson said.
