SISD awarded the UIL Lone Star Cup

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) presented Shiner ISD with the 2023-24 Class 2A Lone Star Cup trophy. This is the 5th time Shiner ISD has received the Lone Star Cup. Texas Farm Bureau sponsored this award. 

Shiner Strudel Sale set for November 9

The annual Shiner Strudel Sale sponsored by Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church is set for Saturday, November 9 at the K.C. Hall.Parishioners and friends of the parish will be gathering to make the hundreds of homemade apple strudels they expect to get orders for.

Chris Wegener named High School Principal of the Year

A member from Region III named High School Principal Chris Wegener as “High School Principal of the Year” for all of that region at the Shiner ISD board meeting. Region III consists of schools within Lavaca, DeWitt, Goliad, Refugio, Calhoun, Matagorda, Jackson, Wharton, Colorado and Karnes Counties.

A Survivors Story....

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a Shiner native aims to get the word out on the importance of this month. Audra (Migl) Sapko was diagnosed in April of 2022 with stage three breast cancer, and she has learned a lot since her diagnosis.

M+14 Cookoff was huge success

The Meisetschleager family held its annual M+14 cookoff at the Moulton City Park on Oct. 14.The event raised about $17,800 in scholarships and gave out 13 scholarships already this past year for $16,000 total.

Citizens speak out at MISD board meeting

Many parents and concerned citizens attended the Moulton ISD school board meeting Oct. 9 voicing their concerns and criticisms of the new reading and language arts program “Amplify”. Seven people spoke during public comment.“I have four children that go to school here,” parent Bridget Brosh said.

YISD receives construction updates

A representative from Weaver and Jacobs Construction gave project updates on both the new baseball field and the Career and Technology Education (CTE) Building at the Oct. 14 meeting.

Council approves new downtown lights

The Yoakum City Council approved a request from the Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce regarding the replacement of downtown string lights at the Oct. 8 meeting. This is in preparation for Christmas on the Grand Dec. 6-7.

DeWitt County Commissioners approve agreements

The DeWitt County Commissioners approved several agreements at the Oct. 14 meeting.The first agreement was a Practitioner Agreement between TML MultiState Intergovernmental Employee Benefits Pool and the Cuero-DeWitt County Health Department for the City of Yoakum.
