Yoakum Little League All-Stars Junior Girls compete in Sectional Tournament

The Yoakum Little League All-Stars Junior Girls competed in the Sectional Tournament in Lockhart July 2-6.They began the double elimination tournament July 1 as Sinton and Calhoun played and Sinton won. Yoakum played Sinton and lost 7-3 July 2. Yoakum won against Calhoun 7-6 July 3.

SWEENY –A 9-2 loss to Sweeny eliminated the Hallettsville Major League All-Stars from the Section 4 Tournament Wednesday, July 3.Hallettsville collected just four hits and made three errors.Hallettsville scored its runs in the second inning.

Minor League Boys gain State Tourney

INGLESIDE – The Hallettsville 12 U Minor League boys copped the Section 4 Tournament in dramatic fashion with a 9-8 victory over Needville Friday.The All-Stars trailed 8-4 prior to scoring five runs in the top of the sixth inning to pull out the win.The five runs came on just two hits.

Hallettsville put up two big crooked numbers in its 13-3 rout of Palacios in the championship game of the Section 4 Tournament Friday.The locals scored five runs in the first inning and five in the second.Lynley Kallus and Macyn Wimberly pitched two innings apiece.

Shiner 2023 graduate and Sam Houston State baseball player Ryan Peterson played in over a dozen games in his freshman season (2024).His first action came Feb. 18 at home in the third game of a three-game series against Oklahoma State, a 19-2 loss for the Bearkats.

St. Paul class of 2022 member Zak Johnson saw plenty of action on the mound during his 2024 sophomore year at Temple College.Johnson’s first action came Jan. 29 in the season opener, the first game of an away doubleheader against Blinn College.

INGLESIDE – The Hallettsville 10U AllStars took an 11-7 victory over Needville in the opening round of the Section IV Tournament Monday evening.Hallettsville had only four hits, but took advantage of 11 walks and a Needville error.Colt Wagner started on the hill and went two and a two third innings.

A trio of Shiner Lady Comanche softball players were chosen for the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) 2023-2024 Super Elite Team for Class 2A.Senior Paeden Vincik was selected as Most Valuable Player.Sophomore Lauren Springfield was selected as Pitcher of the Year.
