Moulton boys basketball: Katz dispatch Dime Box, Knippa in playoffs

LA GRANGE — The Moulton Bobkatz started off hot, cooled off a little then finished strong in their bi-district game against Dime Box. Trent Meisetschleager led all scorers with 29 points and equalled the Longhorns scoring as he led the Katz to a 64-29 win Feb. 19 at La Grange High School.

Johnson takes second place

The Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldog Powerlifting Team came in seventh at the Louise meet on Feb. 10. Deavia Johnson earned runner up in the 181-pound class with a total of 660, 260 squat, 125 bench press, and 275 deadlift.

Lady Bulldogs fall in first regular-season game

The Gobblers were off to a hot start in the bottom of the first inning, scoring 10 runs and defeating the Yoakum High School (YHS) Lady Bulldog Softball Team in its first regular-season game 11-1 on Feb. 12 in Cuero.

YHS Bulldogs defeat Cobras to end regular season

A 17-7 run in the second quarter proved to be crucial in a 42-41 Yoakum High School (YHS) Bulldog win at Industrial on Feb. 13 to end the regular season. The Bulldogs placed runner up in district and had a great year after several seasons of struggle.

Schulenburg 64, Indians 48

SCHULENBURG – Byron Johnson scored 19 points to lead Schulenburg to a 64-48 victory over Sacred Heart in a warm-up game Friday. Johnson scored 8 of his points in the first quarter and the Horns led 17-10. The lead was elongated to 33-23 at the half.

Indianettes 12, Goliad 5

The Sacred Heart Indianettes defeated Goliad here Tuesday, Feb. 13, 12-5. SH had 15 hits including 5 for extra bases. Phoenix Richter led the rout with 3 hits, 2 doubles and 2 RBI and Aracely Guzman drove in 5 runs.

SH 19, S'burg 8 (5)

SCHULENBURG – When a team bats .559 in a game, the outcome is never in doubt. The Sacred Heart Indianettes blasted out 19 hits in the 19-8 victory over Schulenburg Friday. Seven of the hits were for extra bases including a home run by Rylan Dworsky.

LB 11, Smithville 1 (5)

Hallettsville won its home opener easily with an 11-1, five-inning victory over Smithville here Monday evening. Kaylie Olivarez (4-0) gave up one hit and recorded 11 strikeouts. The only Lady Tiger run was unearned. The LB led 2-0 before a 9-run third inning.

LB advance to regional quarters; tie school record for most wins in a season

GERONIMO – After two impressive opening round wins, the Hallettsville Lady Brahmas’ playoff run going to get harder. The Lady Brahmas had no trouble in a 55- 32 area round victory at Navarro High School Friday night and they played district champion San Antonio Cole Tuesday.
