Moulton girls basketball: Moulton girls knock down Prairie Lea 55-22 to stay undefeated in district

Araceli Vasquez scored 20 points and Audrey Swinford tipped in 13 points to keep the Moulton Kittens unbeaten in district after four games with a 55-22 win against Prairie Lea at home on Friday. Moulton rose to 17-8 after the win.

Moulton girls basketball: JH Kittens return to action with 10-point win over Austwell-Tivoli

Ava Olivarez recorded 23 points to lead the junior high Kittens to a 45-35 home win over Austwell-Tivoli on Thursday. Moulton led 8-6 after one quarter and 18-12 at the break. A-T went on a 12-11 run in the third quarter and Moulton scored 16 of 27 points in the fourth box. MacKenzie G.

Moulton boys basketball: Anderle, JH Katz defeat Austwell-Tivoli

Grayson Anderle deposited 16 points and Carlos Trevion chipped in 10 points in the junior high Katz’s 36-16 win over Austwell-Tivoli on Jan. 2 in Moulton. Moulton led 15-4 after one quarrter and 24-8 at halftime. The Katz outscored A-T 12-8 in the second half.

SH in first swim meet

Sacred Heart competed in its first swim meet of the season Saturday, Dec. 15 in El Campo. The Indians and Indianettes both competed against mostly 4A and 5A schools. On the 50-yard freestyle, Annika Brooks was 8th, Karley Kostelnik 15th.

Brahmas go 3-for-4 in S'burg

SCHULENBURG – The Hallettsville Brahmas went three up and one down in the Schulenburg Tournament last Wednesday and Thursday. The lone loss came in the Brahmas’ final game of the tournament Thursday, 63-54, to Hempstead.

Lady Brahmas defeat Bears for east chambers tourney title

WINNIE – The Hallettsville Lady Brahmas atoned for an earlier loss to Little Cypress Mauriceville by defeating the Bears, 39-25, in the championship game of the East Chambers Holiday Classic Friday. The LB had lost to the Bears, 38-33, in the first game of the tournament Wednesday.

Shiner football: Brooks gets interception for Aggies in bowl game

Shiner 2023 graduate and Texas A&M freshman Dalton Brooks got a turnover which led to a score in the Aggies’ 31-23 loss to Big 12 team Oklahoma State Dec. 27 in the  2023 TaxAct Texas Bowl at NRG Reliant Stadium.

Shiner football: Taylor wins AAC Award

Shiner grad and University of Texas-San Antonio senior linebacker  Donyai Taylor was named to the All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) Second Team following the conclusion of the 2023 regular season.

Shiner boys basketball: Shiner 58, Kenedy 53

Carson Schuette had a heck of a game Dec. 27 at home against Kenedy as he bucketed 28 points and nailed five triples as Shiner took a 58-53 win. Kenedy led 14-12 after the first frame and Shiner outscored the Lions 9-8 in the second quarter to trail 22-21 at halftime.

Shiner boys basketball: Comanches place seventh in Luling tourney

The Shiner Comanches won one and lost three games to place seventh in the Luling Holiday Tournament last Thursday and Friday. Yoakum 56, Shiner 49 The Yoakum Bulldogs posted a 15-7 fourth-quarter run to edge the Comanches 56-49 on Thursday morning.
