St. Paul girls basketball: Lady Cards lose close game at Goliad

Sloane Kocian bagged nine points as St. Paul returned from Christmas Break with a trip to Goliad on Dec. 28, falling 45-36. The Tigerettes led 9-6 after the first frame and outscored the Lady Cardinals 15-6 in second frame. Goliad outscored St. Paul 13-11 in the third square and St.

Shiner girls basketball: LC close 2023 by winning Smithville Tournament

SMITHVILLE — The Lady Comanches won the Smithville Tournament, going perfect in four games. Shiner 42, JC 37 With double-digit scoring from Morgan Lenehan (15) and Rylee Vancura (14), the Lady Comanches captured the tournament title with a 42-37 win over Johnson City on Saturday.

Vasquez leads junior high girls to win at Pettus

Sophia Vasquez scored 10 points in the Moulton junior high Kitten’s 34-16 win at Pettus on Dec. 11. Moulton led 14-2 after the first quarter and was ahead 16-7 at halftime. The Kittens netted 10 of 15 points in the third box and outscored Pettus 8-4 in the fourth frame.

Lavaca County 4-H competes at district Food Show and Food Challenge competitions

Eighteen Lavaca County 4-H members participated in the District 11 4-H Food and Nutrition Project Competitions in Cuero on Dec. 13 and Dec. 14. There are 18 counties in the Coastal Bend District qualifying participants at the preceding county level events. The Food Show is an individual event.

Yoakum High School (YHS) senior Zachary Taylor has the chance to be all he can be, on the football field and off as well as he recently signed with West Point Military Academy, commonly referred to as Army, to play football.

YHS varsity boys basketball edge alumni 53-52 in charity game

The Yoakum Bulldogs Varsity Boys Basketball Team held an Alumni Game on Dec. 19. Proceeds from the game went to several families in Yoakum. Bulldogs Head Coach Roderick Taylor said $485 in cash was collected as well as $700 worth of clothes and toys, and more was provided to 25 families.

Sacred Heart Indians All-State, All District

Sacred Heart had its share of players on the TAPPS Division IV allstate team and on the all district team. • Nic Angerstein was a first team choice both as a receiver/place kicker/ punter/defensive back. • Brady Haas was a first team all-state as a linebacker and second team halfback.

Shiner volleyball: Shiner spikers win Academic All-State

Five Lady Comanche volleyball seniors received Academic awards. Charlotte Grosenbacher was named to the Elite Academic All-State team. Rylee Vancura was picked for the First Team. Brooke Palmer and Aimee Mitchon each got Second Team. Chelsea Whiddon got Honorable Mention.
