Youth sports: LL East Zone Tournaments start at the end of this week

Little League International East Zone tournaments start on Friday and continue through next week. 8/9/10 Baseball Game 1: Cuero vs Shiner, June 16, 6 p.m; Game 2: Luling vs Hallettsville, June 16, 8 p.m.; Game 3: Yoakum vs Gonzales, June 17, 5 p.m.; Game 4: Lockhart vs Game 1 winner, June 17, 7 p.

Youth sports: Otto part of Team USA 15U that has won two tournaments

With softball no longer an Olympic sport, Team USA was founded.  This is the first year for 15U. Tryouts for the team were by invitation only, with referrals.  Addison Otto was referred by Kat Osterman, former University ofTexas -Austin softball pitcher, All American and Olympian.

Shiner baseball: Comanches give it all but fall short in state title game

ROUND ROCK —The 2023 Shiner senior group has concluded nearly all of their high-school seasons at the state tournament. Save for their freshman year in 2020 in which the season was cancelled before the playoffs due to the COVID19 pandemic.

Shiner baseball: Comanches trap New Home Leopards 11-0 in state semifinals

ROUND ROCK — A great start at the plate and with a one-hit shutout resulted in the Comanches advancing to a second straight state final.

Shiner baseball: Comanches earn third straight trip to state baseball

MARION — Shiner qualified for the state baseball meet for the third straight season and earned the 2023 Region IV-2A championship with a sweep of Johnson City (5-2, 1-0) Thursday and Friday in Marion. “Going to state feels amazing.

Shiner baseball: Wenske signs with UTPB to play college baseball

A teammate on a youth baseball team has helped Comanche senior Drew Wenske find a college home to continue playing baseball. Wenske signed with University of Texas Permain Basin on May 23 to continue his baseball playing days past high school.
