Shiner girls basketball: Lady Comanches dispatch Ganado, Weimar

The Shiner Comanches dropped in two more district games into their district win bag with a home game against Ganado Jan. 17 and a road trip to Weimar on Friday. Shiner 41, Ganado 27 Morgan Lenehan netted 12 points in Shiner’s 41-27 win over the Maidens.

Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs snare Lady Cobras 51-44

Jayana Phillips sank two dozen points and Destiny Rios dropped in 13 points to lead  the Lady Bulldogs to a 51-44 district win at Industrial on Friday. Yoakum took a narrow 12-10 lead at the end of the first quarter and Industrial went on a 11-7 run in the second quarter to lead 21-19 at halftime.

St. Paul boys basketball: St. Paul drops 64-49 game to Austin San Juan at home

Having lost by just a few points the first time around against Austin San Juan,  St. Paul  was sure they could run with them again.  “After the game at their place in December, we felt we could compete with them,” Cardinals head coach Ryan Geiger said.

Yoakum girls basketball: Lady Bulldogs won both two district games last week

The Lady Bulldogs picked up wins in both district games from last week. Yoakum 59, Palacios 42 Jayana Phillips and Destiny Rios each scored 14 points in the Lady ‘’Dogs 59-42 win at Palacios Jan. 10.

Yoakum volleyball: Phillips win All-State Honorable Mention

Sophomore volleyball member Jayana Phillips received Class 3A Honorable Mention on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association  All-State Volleyball Team that was recently released. Phillips helped guide the Lady Bulldogs to a historic season with an appearance in the regional championship match.

Yoakum girls soccer: Lady 'Dogs win 4-0 against Port Lavaca Calhoun

The Yoakum Lady Bulldogs soccer team picked up a non-district home win against Port Lavaca Calhoun on Jan. 10 with a 4-0 victory. Daphne Oviedo converted twice from the penalty spot, and Rubi Martinez and Jackie Melendez each scored a goal.

Yoakum defeated Palacios and lost to Edna in district action last week. Yoakum 55, Palacios 54 A 21-14 run in the fourth frame gave Yoakum its first district win, 55-54, at Palacios on Jan. 10.

Against Louise last Friday, the Shiner Comanches kept on scoring and scoring. And scoring and scoring. Carson Schuette hit four triples and sank 21 points, Ryan Peterson deposited 17 points and Micah Carson finished with 14 points and three triples as Shiner blew down Louise 84-51.

The Shiner Lady Comanches concluded the first round of district play unscathed. Shiner went to 6-0 with a 58-26 win over Louise Friday night at home. “To finish the first round of district undefeated is pretty big,” Shiner head coach Ray Neal said. “We are still making little improvements.
