Yoakum volleyball: Lady Dogs crush Palacios 3-0

Yoakum wrapped up the regular season with a 25-9, 25-10, 25-5 win over Palacios at home on Oct. 25 and secured second place in district.

Shiner volleyball: Lady Comanches second in district after loss to Schulenburg to end regular season

The effort for Shiner, as always, was there but the desired result was not to be. Schuleburg swept Shiner volleyball team 25-15, 25-23, 25-20 to claim the 27-2A title in the regular-season finale for both teams in Schulenburg on Tuesday.

Yoakum football: Bulldogs face Hempstead this week

The Yoakum Bulldogs play their final regular-season away game with a trip to Hempstead this week. “We are looking forward to playing a team that is no in the top 10,” Yoakum head coach Bo Robinson said. The Bobcats have struggled this year so far with a 1-7 record and are 0-2 in district play.

Yoakum cross country: Martinez wins place at state meet

Following the regional meet, Yoakum will have one competitor at the state cross country meet. Boys The Yoakum boys came in No. 16 in the team standings at the Region IV-3A championships on Tuesday. Clayton Hlavac was No. 77 in 19 minutes, 5.52 seconds and had a pace of 6:10 a mile.

Yoakum football: Columbus uses big second half to defeat Bulldogs

St. Paul cross country: State meet is next Monday

The St. Paul Lady Cardinals cross-country team will try for another 2A team championship next Monday at the TAPPS state cross-country meet at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course in Waco. “The competition at state will still be tough.

Moulton cross country: Kittens, Katz teams move on to state

Both Moulton girls and boys regional cross-country teams will run at the state meet after both came in third. The Kittens will run at 11:40 a.m. on Nov. 5 at Old Settler’s Park while the Katz run at 12:10 p.m.

Shiner football: Refugio rallies to defeat Comanches 38-27

Trailing Shiner 27-25 with less than four minutes left in the game, the Refugio Bobcats avoided a third-straight loss to the Comanches with 13 points in that time span. Jordan King scored on a 45-yard run with the two-point play no good with 3:18 left in the fourth frame.

The Lady Comanches continued to maintain hold on at least share of the district title as they took down Flatonia 25-17, 25-9, 25-12 at home on Saturday.

For only the second time in district, the Lady Bulldogs came up short, falling to Columbus, who also dealt the Yoakum their first district loss, 25-17, 18-25, 25-22, 26-24.
