Shiner found themselves in a position Friday at Three Rivers that this season was a little uncommon — behind on the scoreboard. The Comanches had trailed in the season opener at Hallettsville and in their home game vs Poth.

The Shiner Lady Comanches varsity cross-country crushed the 28-2A meet Monday at Green-Dickson Park. They took the title by scoring 15 points to second-place Gandao’s 72. Weimar came in third to advance to regionals as a team.

The Fighting Comanche Band topped all the Class 2A bands competing at the Seguin Marching Festival last Saturday—winning higher scores than even a couple 4A bands, one 5A school and two 6A bands, their band director said—with 7th overall in the areawide marching band competition.

FLATONIA — The Shiner volleyball team trailed most of the opening set Oct. 4 at Flatonia. The Lady Comanches got it together to win the first one by two points before winning the next by larger margins in a 25-23, 25-16, 25-20 sweep to improve to 3-1 after four matches in district.

After a rough non-district schedule that saw the Bulldogs go 2-4, Yoakum now starts district play this week. They will travel to Hitchcock who is undefeated on the year, started off by a 49-12 win over 2ADI powerhouse Refugio. Hitchcock scores 45 points a game and yields 20.3 points a contest.
