The Shiner Junior League softball team continued its historical run by winning the Southwest Regional Tournament on July 22, defeating West Mesa, N.M. 14-8.Shiner got a first-round bye and advanced to the championship game with a 19-0 win over Lake Charles, Louisiana 19-0 on July 21.

Coaches with Lavaca County ties inducted into Hall of Honor

The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) is holding its annual summer convention this week in Houston and to kickoff the event, the organization held its Hall of Honor banquet Saturday recognizing seven coaches for their distinguished careers in coaching.

Locals win in Kolache Klassic

Local golfers finished in the money at the 50th Annual Kolache Klassic at Municipal Golf Course Saturday and Sunday.Son and dad Mike Woytek and Tait Woytek won the 4th B flight with a two under 73-69-142.Trace Patek and Cole Jansky won the 5th flight with a one over par 75-70- 145.

Local sports: Summer tennis camp July 28-30

Shiner Tennis Association will offer a summer tennis camp Tuesday-Thursday, July 28-30 at Green Dickson Park. The schedule is as follows: K-4th grades - 8-9:15 a.m.; 5th-7th grades- 9:15-10:45 a.m.; 9th-12th grades - 7-8:45 p.m.Coach Brent Smiga will be assisting STA with the camp.

Five Lady Comanche softball players won spots on the Blue Bell/Texas Sports Writers Association 2A All-State Team.Senior Lauren Springfield was chosen as Second-Team Pitcher and senior Kloe Polasek was selected as Second-Team Designated Hitter/Designated Player/Flex.
