Local youth sports: Shiner wins Texas East State title, advances to Southwest Regionals

The Shiner Junior League softball team won the Texas East State Championship with a 10-0 win over Jasper on Monday in Rosenberg, booking a trip later this week to the Southwest Regional tournament in New Mexico.

Shiner sports: Steven Cerny to be inducted into THSCA Hall of Honor on Saturday

Former Shiner ISD athletic director, head football coach, head softball coach and head baseball coach Steven Cerny will be inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) Hall of Honor on Saturday at the Grand Ballroom of the George R.

Shiner 2023 graduate and Sam Houston University junior (2025-2026) RHP (Right-Handed Pitcher) Ryan Peterson will be playing professional baseball.Peterson was selected by the Miami Marlins with 71st (Competitive Balance Round B) overall selection of the Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft on Saturday.

Noska stepping down

After 15 years as Sacred Heart head baseball coach, Mark Noska has resigned the position.Noska coached baseball for 36 years and had an overall record of 431-146 for a .746 win percentage. At Sacred Heart, his record was 263-111 and had a .703 win percentage.

Greg Murrile has been hired to head Sacred’s Heart softball program.Murrile is the Lavaca County Emergency Management Coordinator, has been around the block so to speak.

Local youth sports: Shiner JR softball routs R-F to take sectional title

PALACIOS —  The Shiner Junior softball team wrapped up the sectional championship with a 14-3 win over Rockport-Fulton June 30 in Palacios.Shiner led 7-0 after three innings before outscoring R-F 7-1 in the fourth frame and yielded two runs in the top of the fifth.
