Mary Ann Taylor
Mary Ann Taylor, 91, of Shiner, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 in Victoria.
She was born on April 23, 1935 to Alfons and Wilma Svoboda. She spent most of her childhood in Shiner and loved spending time with her grandparents.
The family moved to the Houston area, where Mary Ann met her husband of 46 years, Clinton.
Mary Ann had a long career with Nabisco before retiring to the Shiner area with Clinton, where they raised cattle and became part of the fabric of the town.
Mary Ann was an adventurer, often talking about her travels with Clinton. She worked her way up in her career when it was difficult for a woman to do so, earning the respect of her colleagues and building lifelong friendships.
She was active in social and charitable organizations, including the Pilot Club and the Red Hat Society.
She loved fishing and being in nature, often expressing gratitude for slow, steady rains. Mary Ann always had a collection of flowers, vegetables and plants that she nurtured.
She had a fondness for animals, was known to take in strays and always had at least one four-legged companion.
As busy as she kept, Mary Ann always had time for family. She loved nothing more than to watch her “sugars” grow and thrive. There was always a hug, some love, and good advice to anyone who needed it, usually followed by a funny story told with a twinkle in her eye.
She was proud of every accomplishment and made great efforts to be present for every milestone. She enjoyed gathering loved ones together for a meal, but don’t even think about trying to pick up the tab.
Mary Ann will be remembered by many for her courage, generosity, quick wit and kind heart.
She leaves behind her sisters-in-law, Candy and Jan; nephews, Ron and Brian; and nieces, Mariah, Lauren and Samantha and their families. She will also be missed by numerous family members and friends in Shiner and beyond.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Taylor; her parents, Alfons and Wilma; brothers, Michael and Kenneth; and great-niece, Hannah.
The family received friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Sunday, June 14 at Shiner Funeral Home.
A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15 in the Shiner Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dornburg Center for Compassion or the American Cancer Society.
