Local sports: SW Regional champs underway in Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Wash.

The Shiner Junior League softball team started the World Series in Kirkland, Wash. on Sunday with pool play, coming up short to The Philippines (Asia-Pacific) 7-1. On Monday, they were edged by Canada 11-10. Shiner’s remaining pool games were scheduled for Tuesday against East (Suburban West LL/Johnstown, Pa.) and yesterday (Wednesday) against West (Foothill LL/Palo Cedro, Calif.). The single-elimination bracket play is set to begin today. The semifinals are scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) and the championship game will be played on Saturday.
